People have been receiving fraudulent emails supposedly from the Cyprus police, notifying them that they are involved in various criminal activities.
The emails are being sent from fake accounts, presenting the new police chief, Themistos Arnaoutis, as the sender.
They contain various police logos and name Europol, Interpol and the justice ministry.
The fraudulent emails tell the receivers that they are involved in criminal cases, such as online fraud and child pornography.
The police notify the public that no such email would ever be sent out by the police and that in no case should people respond.
Instead, receivers of such emails should immediately report them to the police.
