Police are investigating attempted murder after a 22-year-old was heavily wounded in a stabbing at a Limassol bar.

A 27-year-old, named by the police as Mehmet Nikola Mehmet, born on May 26, 1997, is wanted in connection with the crime and an arrest warrant has been issued.

The wanted man

On Saturday, 30 minutes after midnight, women began fighting in the bar and other patrons intervened to separate them.

A heated argument ensued during which the 27-year-old is believed to have pulled a knife and stabbed the 22-year-old in the abdomen.

The 27-year-old then ran off while the younger man was taken to Limassol general hospital in a private car.

The victim was found to have two stab wounds of about 10cm depth each.

He was operated on and admitted for treatment.

Doctors said his condition was serious but out of danger.
