High jinks by pupils on school bus routes are getting out of hand in Limassol, it was reported on Monday.
Boys are reportedly jumping onto the backs of busses in high-spirited displays or on a dare from peers, Petros Theocharides, head of Limassol public bus company (Emel) told Philenews.
The Emel rep expressed concern that the trend would end up in a tragedy.
Drivers may not notice the minors hitching a ride on the back of the bus, he said.
Seven incidents had been recorded of such behaviour, of which four outside gymnasiums and lyceums in east Limassol, according to Theocharides, as relayed by the daily.
Most students already hold annual or monthly bus cards which proves they were no trying to avoid the fare, he said.
The Limassol police department has been informed of the situation and parents, teachers, and society in general, had been called upon to raise awareness of how dangerous the behaviour is.
A video taken by a driver which is circulating on social media, shows four minors hanging onto the back of a bus in Yermasoyia, and hopping off when the bus temporarily stops, with a label roughly translating as: “POV: no cash for bus” and laughing emojis.
