Frontline police officers should receive a hazard allowance for working in  dangerous and adverse conditions, Isotita trade union said on Thursday.

In a letter to chief of police Themistos Arnaoutis, Isotita said it was right that prison guards and members of the National Guard received a hazard allowance and that it was high time for police officers to receive the benefit too.

Isotita said it was ready to elaborate on its proposals, adding that the hazard allowance would mean a minimum annual cost for the state and a matter of recognition for the officers.

The increase in productivity would be “unavoidable”, Isotita added.
