The Fire Department responded to a total of 35 calls since Friday, 20 of which were fires.

At 11.52pm on Friday, Paphos firefighters responded to a fire in a private vehicle that had just parked outside a block of flats. The fire spread to a rented vehicle. Both cars were extensively damaged.

Fire Department spokesman Andreas Kettis said the fire appeared to have started from an electrical or mechanical fault.

In Limassol, firefighters responded to a call at 1.07am on Sunday about a fire at an abandoned metalsmith’s. The fire caused extensive damage to machinery.

In Nicosia, a motorcycle caught fire at 4.08am while parked at the side of the road, destroying it.
