A 52-year-old man is in critical condition at Nicosia General on Sunday after suffering severe burns from a fire in an abandoned house, the fire services said. 

The incident occurred on Saturday night while the man was with two others when the fire broke out under circumstances currently under investigation. 

According to authorities, around 10pm, the fire erupted in an abandoned two-story building in Palouriotissa, causing extensive damage to the first-floor apartment and the entire structure. 

Firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze, and the injured man was transported to the hospital.

Fire Service Spokesman Andreas Kettis said that following reports of two additional individuals possibly inside the building, a search was conducted, but fortunately, no one else was found as they had reportedly exited safely. 

The police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the presence of the injured man in the building. The Fire Service has responded to a total of 38 incidents in the last 24 hours, including 23 fires and 15 special services.
