All roads leading to Troodos were reopened again shortly after midday on Tuesday, the police said, with access from Troodos square towards the top of Mount Olympus restricted to vehicles with four-wheel drive.

The police also warned that there is dense fog and limited visibility on the road connecting the villages of Kalo Chorio, Gourri, Farmakas and Odou.

As such, they urged motorists to drive with “maximum caution, low speeds, safe distances from other vehicles, and their headlights on”.

Roads leading to the village of Troodos had been closed earlier in the day due to icy conditions, with the village cut off from Platres, Karvouna and Prodromos below it.

The rest of Cyprus’ road network was largely unaffected by the weather, though the police did advise that ongoing roadworks in other parts of the island may impact traffic.

The police called on the public to drive cautiously and follow all road signs, so as to avoid any accidents.
