Plans to upgrade Tseri Avenue in Strovolos are continuing according to plan and on schedule, Strovolos Mayor Stavros Stavrinides said on Sunday.
Since work started in October, he said, contractors have been continuously on the job.
“Problems arise, which are resolved on a daily basis with both shopkeepers and residents,” he said, adding that “there have been some minor delays, which we have overcome.”
Recent heavy rains created potholes in the road but these have been seen to,
In January and February the eight objections that have been lodged against expropriations will be examined.
Some empty private plots have been identified, he said, which will be rented by the municipality and used as parking spaces to serve the needs that arise in the area was the first phase of the works take place.
He said the work is split into six phases, three of which will be carried out to the east of the road, and three to the west. Once works have been completed for phase one they will continue on the opposite side of the road.
Asked if the works have created problems and queues for users of the road, he said “not especially”.
Entrances to shops have been created for those using cars or on foot, he said, which have created some complaints among business owners.
Traffic build up on the road will not be solved by these works though, he said as it is a “dual carriageway and not a four-lane road”.
He said each two phases of the road will take eight months to complete, meaning phases one and two will be ready in May-June.
The completed project will create 275 parking spaces, 19 bus stops, pedestrian crossings and decorative trees in addition to solving sewerage and lighting problems.
