The 348 students left out of state scholarships in 2023-2024 will receive the grants they are entitled to, head of the state scholarship institution (Ikyk) Giorgos Skalias said on Monday.

Speaking at the House finance committee, which examined the Ikyk budget for 2025, Skalias said “we don’t want this tragic issue with the 348 students to happen again and the necessary measures must be taken.”

Skalias thanked President Nikos Christodoulides for his intervention and the finance ministry for releasing €1.1 million for 2023-2024 and €800,000 for 2024-2025, bringing the total budget for 2025 to €1.9 million.

This was the first time the Ikyk requested further funds, as “the number of students was much higher”, he said.

Skalias said all payments for the 348 students would be completed in March.
