Deputy Minister for European Affairs Marilena Raouna met with Danish Minister for European Affairs Marie Bjerre in Nicosia on Thursday. The meeting highlighted the ‘strong bilateral relations between Cyprus and Denmark’, particularly in light of their shared trio Presidency of the Council of the European Union, alongside Poland. Cyprus is set to assume the Presidency from January 1 to June 30, 2026.

Raouna expressed her gratitude for the smooth collaboration in shaping the 18-month programme of the Council presidency, which Poland began leading in January of this year. She also voiced confidence in the continued effective partnership between the three nations during their respective terms.

The ministers discussed key priorities for the presidency, including the new multiannual financial framework (MFF), the future of the common agricultural policy, EU enlargement and ongoing support for Ukraine.

During the meeting, Raouna also briefed Bjerre on the latest developments regarding the Cyprus issue, emphasising that the matter is fundamentally a European concern.
