Wizz Air, as part of its aim to connect people from Cyprus to Europe and the Middle East, has broken its own record once again, by welcoming 62.8 million passengers in 2024 on over 300,000 flights, its highest ever passenger traffic.

The airline, which launched 94 routes in 2024 and grew its fleet size by 34 aircraft or 15 per cent, is set to add 50 state-of-the-art aircraft to its fleet over the next few months.

Wizz Air said on Tuesday that the routes included flights from Larnaca to Egypt and Milan.

It added that, out of 226 aircraft in Wizz Air’s fleet, 146 are brand new Airbus A320/21neos, offering the best performance and sustainability characteristics in its class, with the neo technology now powering 65 per cent of Wizz Air’s operations.

“Throughout 2025 and early 2026, Wizz Air expects to take 50 new Airbus A321neo and A321XLR deliveries. These additional latest technology aircraft will take the type’s share of the Wizz fleet to 77 per cent, as the airline continues its retirement of A320ceo family aircraft, further bolstering its fuel-efficient operations and its market-leading sustainability credentials,” the company said.

It added that last year, Wizz Air completed 99.5 per cent of its scheduled flights, which is the third best result among all European airlines and well above industry average.

“Further enhancing its customer experience, Wizz Air tripled its customer care centres capacity, implemented the 24/7 Amelia voice assistant for passengers in case of disruptions and launched a new help centre platform on wizzair.com.”

It also continued receiving recognition for its sustainability efforts, being named ‘EMEA’s Environmental Sustainability Airline Group for 2024’ by CAPA (Centre for Aviation Awards for Excellence 2024) the ‘Best Airline for Carbon Reduction’ and the ‘Most Sustainable Low-Cost Airline’ for the fourth consecutive year by World Finance.

Wizz Air has been operating in Cyprus since 2020 and connects travellers to 28 destinations across 17 countries.

“Through its expanding network, Wizz Air continues to enhance connectivity, making Cyprus a hub for affordable and seamless travel to Europe, the Middle East and beyond,” it said.

“We are excited to wrap our 20th year of operations with record passenger traffic and we are grateful for every single passenger who chose to fly with Wizz Air in 2024,” said Wizz Air’s corporate communication manager Olivia Harangozo.

“We are proud to have further enhanced our operational performance as well as improved our on-time performance and customer experience and will continue to invest heavily in those areas. Connecting people from Cyprus to Europe and the Middle East is at the core of what we do, driven by our commitment to making travel simple, affordable, and enjoyable for all,” she added.
