More than 1,200 students from across Cyprus, participated in the Pancyprian School Inclusive Health Walk 2025 to promote equality and inclusivity in Larnaca on Wednesday.

“The goal of organising the walk is to raise awareness among students of middle schools, high schools and technical schools towards a healthy lifestyle, through physical activity,” the education ministry said.

This particular event is not just a race, “but a symbol for the promotion of health, equality and inclusion”, Theoti Pourou inspector of physical education said.

In the race special schools and special school units for special needs students participated as well.

Pourou added that it was an opportunity for all children to participate, regardless of ability, as physical activity is not only addressed to athletes, but also to those who face challenges.

“Since there were categories from the School for the Blind, the School for the Deaf and all other categories for children who do not have the abilities that athletes do,” she added.

The race was an opportunity to initiate equal and fair opportunities for all students, “with no exception to be left out of sports from this joy of participation.”

There were four categories: a 1500-metre race for middle school girls, a 1,500-metre race for middle school boys, a 1,000-metre inclusive walk, and a 3,000-metre race for high schools/technical school students.
