A man was spotted stopping his car and defecating in the middle of a road near Karavas, Turkish Cypriot Lapithos, Karavas, and Myrtou mayor Firat Ataser said on Friday.

Ataser posted a photograph on Facebook of the car from its rear, with the driver’s door open and the man squatted next to it with his trousers around his ankles.

There was what appeared to be a deposit on the ground underneath the man.

The car, a white BMW 3 Series, bore a “Baby on Board” sticker on its rear.

Ataser described the man as “shameless”, and added “I could not find anything to say”.

He also said he had instructed the authorities to “do what is necessary”.

On Friday evening, Ataser announced that “what was necessary was done”, and that the defecator had been issued a fine amounting to 43,469TL (€1,167).

“We have no forgiveness for those who destroy public order and the environment,” he said.
