Construction works on five more blocks of flats for refugees are set to begin in the first half of 2025, in the framework of the interior ministry’s Ktizo plan.
In a press release, the interior ministry said Ktizo was part of the government’s refugee housing policy and had been a priority from day one of President Nikos Christodoulides’ term.
The aim is to solve the housing problem for displaced people once and for all, so that they can live in dignity and in a safe environment.
The Department of Town Planning and Housing is implementing the plan in three stages over a period of ten years with a total budget of €131 million, to address the problems faced by 345 apartment blocks in government refugee housing settlements across Cyprus.
“Despite delays, due to unforeseeable obstacles, the plan is on an implementation course,” the ministry said.
Meetings of all involved services are being held on a continuous basis to solve any problems arising, including legal and technical issues.
“Ktizo is a huge and demanding endeavour, which we are determined to implement, thus supporting the refugees until the reunification of our country and the restoration of our properties in our occupied villages,” the ministry said.
