Police arrested two men, aged 43 and 53, after they fell down a cliff in Larnaca district in their attempt to escape the law.

Previously officers had secured evidence that the 43-year-old was in Kalo Chorio after failing to appear before the Nicosia court for a theft case.

At around 3.30pm on Thursday police located the suspect who immediately tried to flee via secondary roads.

Officers in pursuit caught up with the vehicle at the edge of a 4m deep cliff, where the man lost control of the car and tumbled down. A 53-year-old man was also found to have been in the car. Neither man sustained injuries.

Officers found car batteries and credit cards in the car for which the two men could not provide adequate explanation and they were arrested on the spot for possession of stolen goods.

The two will appear before the Larnaca district court on Friday for the issuance of remands.
