Limassol’s deputy mayors are deeply concerned over the vagueness of their duties, which they say is hindering the smooth operation of the municipalities they represent.
The deputy mayors of the four municipalities in the broader Limassol area have invited their peers across Cyprus to a meeting to discuss setting up a coordinating committee, which will undertake to meet with the parliament and the interior ministry.
Ayios Athanasios deputy mayor Marinos Kyriakou told the Cyprus Mail that the meeting would be held on March 5 at 5pm at Navaria hotel in Limassol.
The deputy mayors of the four municipalities had met on February 19 in Mouttayiaka to discuss the lack of direction and responsibilities regarding their office and proposals to solve the problems caused by the local government shake-up in the wake of elections last year.
They said the government and parliament should acknowledge their role and assign specific responsibilities.
