Marios Georgiou was pronounced Male Gymnast of the Year in a vote organised by European Gymnastics.

President Nikos Christodoulides congratulated Georgiou in a written statement on Wednesday afternoon, saying “this is a top moment for Cypriot sport and for our country”.

“I would like to express my warmest congratulations to Marios Georgiou and his coaches for this highest distinction. Athletes like Marios Georgiou increase the footprint of Cypriot sport and Cyprus internationally,” he added.

The Cyprus Sports Organisation and the Cyprus Gymnastics Federation also congratulated Georgiou, who received 50.6 per cent of votes after six days of voting.
