A 53-year-old Limassol man was remanded for eight days on Wednesday after a car chase that led to the injury of a police officer.
The case concerns conspiracy to commit a felony and a misdemeanor, grievous bodily harm, possession of burglary tools, and negligent and reckless acts.
Police reported that overnight a patrol car had approached a suspicious parked vehicle with three individuals inside.
When officers showed their IDs and addressed them the car’s driver started up the vehicle and reversed it, dragging and injuring one member of the patrol, before speeding off.
The police chased the car, while its driver carried on speeding recklessly and dangerously, committing various traffic offenses, and ending up colliding with an oncoming vehicle, while police fired warning shots.
The three occupants then abandoned the vehicle and fled, but the police managed to arrest the 53-year-old driver who was taken into custody.
In a subsequent search of the vehicle, police found burglary tools, gloves and surgical masks.
The injured police member was taken to Limassol General Hospital, where he received first aid and was discharged.
Limassol CID and traffic police are furthering the case.
