Significant energy savings of 35 per cent have been achieved by installing photovoltaic systems in 405 schools in Nicosia, Larnaca, Limassol, Famagusta and Paphos, the education ministry said on Tuesday.
The photovoltaic systems have a total capacity of 4,881 MW and were part of a wider project carried out jointly by the ministry and the Cyprus Electricity Authority, which also included thermal insulation and waterproofing work.
The project, completed in July 2023, added 84,918 square meters of thermal insulation and was partly funded by the EU’s recovery and resilience fund.
It supports Cyprus’ transition to a green economy, aiming to cut primary energy demand by at least 30 per cent.
