A huge fire broke out in a house in Engomi overnight with authorities on Wednesday investigating its causes.
Six fully staffed fire engines were dispatched to put out the blaze which from initial evidence, seems to have started from the chimney, fire service spokesman Andreas Kettis told the CyBC.
Reinforcements were sent from Larnaca and the crisis management unit (Emak) and off-duty personnel were called in to cover the needs of the Nicosia stations.
Authorities were alerted around 11pm about the fire which broke out in the three-story wooden house.

The blaze completely destroyed the roof and other parts of the residence on the ground and first floor.
The owner and his wife were inside the home at the time and escaped to safety before the firemen arrived.
Due to the enormous thermal load residents of an adjacent apartment building were also evacuated as a precaution.
The fire’s exact causes are being investigated in collaboration with the police.
