Limassol’s strong ties with France were reaffirmed on Thursday during a visit by French Ambassador Clelia Chevrier Kolacko, who met with Limassol mayor Yiannis Armeftis.

Following the meeting, the ambassador told the Cyprus News Agency (CNA) that the aim was to further strengthen the already close relationship between France and Limassol.

She noted that Limassol has been twinned with Marseille since 1992.

The mayor of Limassol has travelled to Marseille and representatives from the French city have visited here to discuss various projects for Limassol’s development,” she said, highlighting the close cultural cooperation between the two cities.

Armeftis emphasised the importance of the ambassador’s visit, describing it as a confirmation of the strong relationship between Limassol and the local French community. “This bond is reinforced through various activities,” he said.

He added that discussions covered additional areas for collaboration, including culture, tourism and gastronomy. He also noted that Limassol is considering Marseille’s example in using trams as a mode of public transport.
