This month, the focus is on women as this Saturday marks International Women’s Day. Acclaimed visual artist Giorgos Gerontidis contributes to the occasion in his own way by holding a new painting exhibition with works titled Female Portraits. Held at Morfi Gallery in Limassol, the exhibition will open on March 8.
The choice of the opening date is not random as it connects with the exhibition’s theme and the artist’s tribute to the female form. The portraits, created using a four-colour technique on a white background, capture the essence of female presence with harmony and an abstract dimension, balancing between realism and abstraction.
For the past five years, Gerontidis has focused exclusively on creating female portraits. Emphasising harmony, serenity and simplicity, he captures the soul and essence of the female figure through a carefully selected four-colour palette. His use of warm and cool tones creates a balance and striking contrast, while the white background removes any sense of space and time, giving the works a timeless and dreamlike quality. This choice adds an abstract dimension, allowing viewers to focus solely on the form and expression.
The Limassol-born artist has exhibited his pieces around the world in both solo and group showcases and his creations are featured in public and private collections across Cyprus, Greece and the UK. This month, until March 17, he returns to his hometown, placing the spotlight on women.
