A 63-year-old man from Paphos was arrested after a search of his home turned up nine cannabis plants, the police said on Sunday.

The man was arrested on Saturday after police secured a warrant to search his home, with the police saying the plants were located in a bedroom and that they ranged in height between 14 and 30 centimetres.

On Sunday, he appeared in court and was remanded in custody for five days.

The police added that they were located in a “specially designed structure with lightbulbs, a thermometer, and a hygrometer”.

They added that elsewhere in the property, 19 grams of cannabis were found alongside an airtight packaging machine, which was seized as evidence.

During a search of the man’s back garden, the police found nine airtight packages containing a combined total of 250 grams of cannabis.

The police’s investigation into the matter is ongoing.
