A call for items linked to the history and culture of Paphos was made by the town’s municipal authorities on Friday as the creation of municipal museums was announced.

The new initiative aims to offer both locals and visitors a deeper insight into the rich heritage of Paphos.

The municipality invited all residents who possess objects of historical or traditional significance to consider donating them for display in the upcoming museums.

Any items will be evaluated by experts to determine their suitability for inclusion in the museum’s exhibitions.

The municipality reassured the public that the items will be carefully managed throughout the evaluation process. Once accepted, each item will be displayed with a plaque recognising its donor or, in the case of long-term loans, the lender.

Among the items sought are photographs, audiovisual materials and documents related to the history of sports in Paphos, including notable events, athletes, and figures.

Additional materials could include personal diaries, letters, maps, stamps, old newspapers, lithographs, posters, sketches, and programmes related to sporting personalities and milestones.

The municipality also welcomes donations of historical press clippings, flags, banners, trophies, medals, and other forms of honour given to athletes and sports organisations.

Additionally, artworks from the Eastern Mediterranean region, such as paintings, sculptures, prints, silverware, and carpets, are also encouraged.

For those with collections of legally-held antiquities or Byzantine relics, including manuscripts, early printed books, icons, and carved sculptures, the museum will gladly accept these as part of its collection.

Old musical instruments and maritime objects, reflective of the city’s diverse history, will also be considered for display.

The call to contribute is part of a broader effort to preserve and showcase Paphos’ cultural and historical significance, providing a lasting legacy for future generations to explore and appreciate.
