Police on Monday are investigating an overnight fire that destroyed machinery at a livestock facility in Dromolaxia, Larnaca, believed to be the home where five children last week reported they had been abused.
The site was the residence of a 48-year-old man and a 41-year-old woman who are facing trial for longstanding severe child abuse of the family’s five children.
The fire broke out shortly after midnight and members of the fire service managed to extinguish it but not before it had damaged the machinery in the building.
No animals or other livestock units were endangered, police said.
Fire service spokesman Andreas Kettis, in a post on X, said that Larnaca fire stations responded with three fire engines.
“The premises were also used as a residence and inside there were household items, waste materials and electrical appliances. Water hoses and breathing apparatus were used to extinguish the fire. No one had been living in the premises recently,” he said.
The fire’s causes are under investigation by the police, the fire department, and the electromechanical service.
