A 25-year-old man is hospitalized in serious condition on Thursday after being injured in a traffic accident on the new Nicosia-Tseri highway.

According to the police, the accident happened shortly before midnight on Wednesday, when the man lost control of his vehicle, hitting a guardrail, and being flung off road, 25 meters into a field.

Firefighters extricated the victim from the car and he was taken by ambulance to Nicosia General Hospital, where he underwent surgery. Doctors on-duty deemed his condition as critical.

Lakatamia police are furthering the investigation into the exact circumstances of the incident.
