A peaceful protest is taking place on Sunday evening in Paphos over the suspension of Metropolitan Bishop Tychikos. The demonstration is scheduled for 6.30pm at the Town Hall Square.

The event is organised by a group of parishioners from the Holy Metropolis of Paphos, who issued a public call urging all faithful, particularly residents of Paphos town and district, to join in large numbers.

Protesters will begin at the square and then march to the offices of the Metropolis. Organisers say their aim is to express disagreement with the Holy Synod’s decision to suspend Bishop Tychikos, and to call for what they describe as the “restoration of justice and truth.”

The organisers have stressed that the demonstration will be peaceful.

The Holy Synod has not issued a new statement since announcing the bishop’s suspension. The reasons behind the decision have not been made public.

Sunday evening’s protest marks the first organised response from the local community since the suspension was announced.
