A car was completely destroyed by a fire in the Larnaca suburb of Oroklini in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Larnaca police spokesman Christodoulos Konsolos said the fire broke out at around 3.10pm inside a vehicle owned by a 48-year-old man who lives in the area.

The fire, he said, was “completely extinguished by the fire brigade”, while no injuries were recorded.

However, he said, the car was “completely destroyed”, with the police now suspecting that the fire may have been started deliberately.

“From preliminary examination, evidence has been obtained that this was a criminal act, and the scene is expected to be forensically examined,” he added.

The police’s investigation into the matter is ongoing.
