A 25-year-old Austrian national was arrested at Larnaca airport on Wednesday after 23kg of cannabis was found in his luggage.

During a customs and police drug squad Ykan search, an initial x-ray examination showed that the passenger’s baggage may contain drugs. 

A manual check that followed found 23.154kg of cannabis.

According to police, the passenger arrived in Cyprus from Thailand via the United Arab Emirates.

The passenger was arrested and the cannabis was confiscated by the customs department.

Later, both the passenger and the cannabis were handed over to Ykan for further investigation.
