Six young adults have been arrested in Limassol on suspicion of using forged documents to secure residency and student permits in Cyprus, in what police are treating as a possible organised case of document fraud.

Four of the suspects, aged between 21 and 24, appeared before Limassol court on Wednesday. The court issued a seven-day detention order against them as investigations continue. All four were arrested on Tuesday morning after presenting documents at the immigration and migration service office in Limassol.

Officers became suspicious when a migration officer noticed irregularities in the rental agreements submitted. A closer look revealed signs that the documents might be forged. The four were immediately detained under court-issued arrest warrants and have since remained in police custody.

Police said two more individuals, aged 23 and 24, were arrested early Wednesday under similar circumstances. They had also gone to the same office in Limassol to sort out their residency and student paperwork, presenting what appeared to be fake rental documents. They too were detained under fresh arrest warrants and are now being questioned. Limassol criminal investigation department (CID) is leading the probe. Investigators are looking into possible charges of conspiracy to commit a felony, forgery, circulation of forged documents, and attempting to obtain registration through false representation.

Authorities have not ruled out further arrests as part of a wider investigation into fake documentation networks.
