A second man has been arrested in connection with the finding of packages containing products believed to contain controlled substances, the police said on Sunday.

The packages had been seized on Thursday in the Famagusta district, with a 47-year-old man having been arrested at the time.

Further investigations into the matter uncovered evidence linking a 36-year-old man to the products, and he has now as such been arrested.

The 47-year-old has since been released pending further investigations.

The police had announced on Friday that they had seized two packages which had been brought to Cyprus by courier service, in which they found products they believe to contain cannabidiol (CBD) and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), both of which are controlled substances.

Inside the packages, they found 300 sachets of herbal material, 20 smoking vaporisers which appear to contain THC, 36 packages of biscuits, 36 packages of chewing gum, 20 packages of tea, and 10 tubes of creams which appear to contain CBD.

All of the contents of the packages were seized as evidence.

The police’s investigation into the matter is ongoing.
