The summer agenda is definitely the busiest of the year’s events calendar as music and arts festivals make their comeback. Although there is enough to see and do this season, and there are more events than we can count, one annual festival that happens later in the year has announcd details.

Kyriakides’ beloved Cyprus Mushroom Festival is returning this autumn after a break and it has just announced its dates, arriving when the weather is cooler. “We know that a year away from you was enough,” say organisers. “Enough for you to miss us. Enough to remember those unique flavours, the aromas, the smiles, the spontaneous moments that only the Mushroom Festival can offer.

“The festival we all loved, tasted and kept asking for again and again is back! And it’s not just back. It’s returning more refreshed, more festive, more mushroom-fantastic than ever – and in a brand-new surprise location.”

On the weekend of November 1 and 2, the Kyriakides family invites mushroom lovers to a weekend they will not forget. The two days will be packed with flavour, aromas, music and recipes as the festival unfolds.

“A whole mysterious gastronomic world awaits you, featuring eight unique mushroom varieties transformed into incredible surprise dishes,” they add.” Joyful happenings, music, gifts and competitions will keep the energy high until the very end. Our little friends will have their own special space designed for play and fun, while the grown-ups… will feel like kids again.”

The only thing that still remains a secret is the festival’s location as the organisers will reveal the details closer to the time on their social media channels and website. Previous editions included music from DJ sets, live radio links, street food trucks and chefs preparing all sorts of mushroom bites from gyros to bao buns and soup while an entertainment programme kept young visitors busy.

Some editions had a charitable character yet the most impressive highlight of the festival’s history was breaking a World Record for the largest serving of sautéed mushrooms, cooked in a massive pan with a four-metre diameter, weighing over a tonne.

This year more surprises are in store, besides the new location which takes a break from Spilia village where the festival has been hosted since 2018. “The big reveal is coming and trust us, it’ll be worth the wait.”
