A 76-year-old man who travelled to Cyprus for a holiday in April was on Tuesday sentenced to six years in jail for sexually abusing a six-year-old child.

According to newspaper Phileleftheros, the man was handed multiple concurrent sentences, the longest of which is six years.

The man is the child’s grandmother’s partner, and admitted to a total of 10 charges last month.

Phileleftheros had earlier reported that the man had been abusing the girl since 2023, frequently travelling to Cyprus for holidays and staying at the house in which the girl lived.

The matter reportedly came to light after the victim explained a sequence of events to her mother and her mother’s partner, with the case then being reported to the police.

The man was then arrested in Greece, before being transferred to Cyprus to face justice.
