A 16-year-old boy was on Tuesday remanded in custody after assaulting a waiter and robbing his possessions.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Monday morning, with the police saying that the waiter, a 24-year-old man was “attacked by two young men who beat him” and stole his rucksack at around 1.30am, when he was riding his electric scooter home from work.
In that rucksack, the man said, was €500 in cash, a pair of headphones, and Afghan identity card, and receipts from the restaurant at which he works.
He had also said that the pair had attempted to steal his mobile phone, but that they had been unsuccessful as he had “reacted” and they had then fled.
However, the police said the waiter had “suffered visible abrasions”. He was as such taken to the Larnaca general hospital, where he received treatment and was subsequently discharged.
The police had launched an investigation into the matter, and the teenager was arrested in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
At around 2.30am, the police said, officers had spotted a car being driven by a 16-year-old. They pulled the car over and searched the car, finding a knife and receipts from the restaurant at which the 24-year-old works.
The teenager was as such arrested.
