Cyprus Public Transport on Monday apologised for an unannounced strike staged by its workers in Larnaca during the early morning.

Workers went on strike at 6am, with Cyprus Public Transport saying the strike caused “disruptions to our regular services”.

It added that service was restored two hours later at 8am, and that it is now “working diligently to ensure minimal inconvenience going forward”.

“We wish to sincerely apologise to all passengers who were affected by this unexpected incident, which was completely out of our control and without our prior knowledge,” it said.

The company said it still has “no knowledge of the cause of the strike”, and that “it deeply saddens us that the unions and their members chose to proceed with such measures without first engaging in dialogue with us”.

“We strongly believe that constructive discussion and negotiation are the best ways to resolve any issues, rather than taking actions which negatively impact our passengers,” it added.

It added its gratitude to the public “for their understanding and patience during this challenging time”.
