The results of an autopsy conducted on the body of a 73-year-old man who was found dead in a ditch near Paphos airport on Sunday indicate that he was “likely” shot in the back and in the buttocks, Paphos police’s assistant operations director Michalis Nikolaou said.

The man, named as Andreas Shiamptanis, had been found dead at around 11am.

Shiamptanis was known to own an orchard and a summer house near where he was found dead.

Later on Sunday afternoon, a 78-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident, with it believed that he fired the fatal shots.

The police had said earlier that they are investigating the possibility of premeditated murder.
