Ierokipia mayor Nikos Palios on Monday announced that he had sent a letter to the Union of Cyprus municipalities, proposing that the union raise €250,000 for the villages which were impacted by last week’s wildfire which tore through the Limassol district and killed two.

He said Cyprus’ municipalities should “coordinate a collective effort for financial assistance” and that the money raised should be “allocated directly to the affected villages”.

He then added that he and his municipality will give “unwavering support” to those impacted.

Solidarity is a key characteristic of Cypriot society. We stand by those suffering and are undertaking practical initiatives to provide them with relief,” he said.
