The foreign ministry condemned the Israeli strike on Gaza’s Nasser hospital, which killed 20 people including health workers and journalists, in a post on X on Wednesday.

“Journalists, rescuers and civilians must always be protected [and] the safety of journalists, especially in war-torn areas, must be fully ensured and guaranteed,” the ministry said calling for a “thorough investigation into this tragic incident.”

Israeli forces bombed the fourth floor of the building at about 11am local time on Monday.

Circulating video footage shows that, just moments later, a second missile was, seemingly deliberately fired at the journalists, bystanders and first responders who had gathered to help the people who had been hurt or killed.

Five journalists were among the 21 killed.

According to Reuters, these included Associated Press journalists Mariam Abu Daqqa and Moaz Abu Taha, Al Jazeera’s Mohammed Salama, Reuters journalist Hussam al-Masri and freelance journalist Ahmed Abu Aziz.
