The School of Engineering of Frederick University will hold the international conference CASE 25 (Conference on Advancements in Sustainable Engineering), over September 11-12, 2025 at its campus in Limassol. CASE aspires to establish itself as a scientific platform for the exchange of knowledge, the presentation of original research findings, networking with internationally-recognised scholars and the development of innovative approaches in the field of sustainable engineering.

The response from the international research community has been particularly strong, with a total of 93 papers submitted from 16 countries (Cyprus, Greece, Israel, Bulgaria, France, Croatia, Belgium, Romania, Spain, Italy, the Netherlands, Lithuania, Poland, Malaysia, Pakistan, North Macedonia), representing 47 universities, research centres and other research institutions. Of particular significance is the active participation of 51 young researchers and doctoral students from the University’s School of Engineering.

The Conference is being organised by Frederick’s School of Engineering, within the framework of its scientific and research activities, with the participation of all four of its departments — the Department of Mechanical Engineering, the Department of Civil Engineering, the Department of Electrical Engineering, the Computer Engineering and Informatics — and the Department of Architecture. The presidency of the Conference will rotate among the Departments of the School of Engineering, with the current Chair being Dr Paris Fokaides, Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Principal Investigator of the Sustainable Energy Research Group (SERG) of the University.

The Conference programme covers a wide range of thematic areas. Research will be presented on innovative renewable and hydrogen energy technologies, power, control and communication systems, innovation in materials, construction and industrial engineering, as well as the digital assessment of integrated and intelligent buildings.

At the same time, topics will include the design of green spaces and passive climate architecture, the protection and promotion of architectural heritage, the use of smart systems and artificial intelligence for urban efficiency, and the application of the Internet of Things (IoT) in precision agriculture and environmental monitoring. Submissions have also been made in the areas of sustainable construction and innovative materials, circular innovation in the built and natural environment, environmental resilience and climate risk management.

Conference keynote speakers include: Agatino Rizzo (Luleå University of Technology, Sweden), Agis Papadopoulos (Aristotle University of Thessaloniki), Dan Doru Micu (Technical University of Cluj-Napoca, Romania), Spyridon Pantelakis (University of Patras) and Konstantinos Komnitsas (Technical University of Crete). In addition, addresses will be given by the European Commissioner for Environment, Oceans and Fisheries, Costas Kadis, and the Greek Minister of Digital Governance, Dimitris Papastergiou.

The inaugural conference is dedicated to the memory of Professor Marios Fyrillas, in honour of his significant contribution to science and the academic community.
