The damage to the water supply network has been repaired by the water development department (WDD), the Nicosia district government organisation (EOA) said on Thursday.

“The water tanks were filled with water and the gradual water supply to the affected areas began last night,” said the announcement.

The water supply interruption due to a damaged pipeline affected various areas in Lakatamia, Tseri, Anthoupoli and Ergates.

“Due to the prolonged duration of the WDD repairs, the availability of water supply in Nicosia reservoirs serving the affected areas has been exhausted,” the district organisation said.

Since the WDD’s establishment in 2024, reservoir capacity assessments have been carried out by the Nicosia EOA, which indicated water insufficiencies, leading to the start of construction of a new larger GLS-type reservoir which will supply water to the Lakatamia area in case of water cuts.

“Based on the evaluations, the water capacity of Nicosia reserves was insufficient, and so the new larger water tank aims to increase water autonomy in case of supply interruptions for the Lakatamia area, from 13 hours to 37,” the announcement said.

The facility will become operational before the end of the year.

The Nicosia EOA thanked the public for their understanding and cooperation
