Cyprus has a higher life expectancy at birth than the EU average, Eurostat data showed on Thursday.
In 2024, the average life expectancy at birth in the euro area was 81.7 years, while Cyprus recorded an average of 83.2 years.
Italy and Sweden, both at 84.1 years, recorded the highest life expectancy at birth in 2024, followed by Spain at 84 years and Luxemburg at 83.5 years.
On the other end, the lowest life expectancy at birth recorded Bulgaria with 75.9 years, Romania with 76.6 years and Latvia with 76.7 years.
According to Eurostat, a 0.3-year increase in the overall EU average was recorded in comparison to data from 2023, while Cyprus held the third place having recorded a 0.9-year increase, compared to 2019.
Life expectancy at birth shows the mean number of years a newborn child can expect to live in the EU assuming that the current mortality conditions remain constant.
