Grants for the purchase of a second-hand electric car will be opening on September 18 at 9am, the road transport department (TOM) announced on Friday.

Due to the incorrect submission of eight applications earlier in September, they have been cancelled and the slots will be made available next week.

The current portal will be deactivated on September 16 at midnight and will reopen on September 18 at 9am and close on September 20 at midnight or sooner if the slots are filled.

The €9,000 grants are for the purchase of a second-hand vehicle for private use with zero CO2 emissions.

Vehicles purchased before the date of the application will not be eligible to be subsidised.

The purchase must be competed by October 31 to be valid.
