A 67-year-old man suffered fatal injuries on Wednesday at the Nicosia racecourse, when a horse escaped the attention of its groom and ran into the man, the police said on Thursday.

The accident happened shortly after 3.30pm on Wednesday.

The man was initially taken to a private hospital and from there transferred to the Nicosia general hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries just after 3am on Thursday.

The police are investigating the accident.
