The heart of Nicosia, well, the intimate space of The Shoe Factory to be exact, will fill with classical music melodies this Friday night as the Malion Quartett travel to Cyprus for a concert. Invited by the Pharos Arts Foundation for its Cyprus debut, the evening promises to be one to remember.

Winner of numerous top prizes at prestigious international competitions – including the Deutsche Musikwettbewerb, the Osaka International Chamber Music Competition, and the Joseph Joachim Competition Weimar – the Malion Quartett has rapidly established itself as one of the most versatile and exciting ensembles of its generation.

Founded in Frankfurt in 2018, the quartet has since appeared in leading concert halls such as the Alte Oper Frankfurt, the Cologne Philharmonie, the Wigmore Hall in London, and the Philharmonie de Paris, while its acclaimed discography has confirmed its reputation for artistic excellence, and its innovative projects have earned the ensemble a nomination for an Opus Klassik award.

Comprised of Alex Jussow (violin), Miki Nagahara (violin), Lilya Tymchyshyn (viola) and Bettina Kessler (cello), the quartet is distinguished by its wide-ranging repertoire, which includes the masterpieces of the classical string quartet tradition as well as rarely performed works by modern and avant-garde composers.

With its love of experimentation, the quartet is also involved in interdisciplinary projects, seeking dialogue with art forms such as dance, theatre, literature, electronic music, video and light installations.

On Friday, the quartet will present a fascinating programme that will showcase its peerless virtuosity, featuring works by Bach, Mozart, Tchaikovsky and Beethoven.
