Over 50 international football teams have chosen Ayia Napa for their training camps and pre-season preparations, its mayor said on Friday.

This is a “vote of confidence in our sports infrastructure,” mayor Christos Zannetou said.

He described the choice of Ayia Napa as a significant honour and a strong vote of confidence in the region’s infrastructure.

Zannetou added that sports tourism has become an important driver of local development, with the municipality continuing to invest in facilities to further strengthen its position as a preferred training destination.

“Our goal,” he continued, “is to further upgrade our infrastructure and establish Ayia Napa as a leading sports tourism destination.”
