Emergency works are needed on the Ayios Tychonas coastal walkway, Amathus municipality said on Friday after a severe sea storm caused further damage to an already deteriorated site.
The walkway, one of the most frequented coastal paths in Limassol, has suffered extensive wear after decades without comprehensive maintenance.
The latest storm damage intensified safety concerns, particularly at a wooden pedestrian bridge, which has now been closed to the public.
Municipal authorities confirmed that pedestrian access to the wooden bridge has been prohibited with immediate effect, pending a full technical assessment and restoration works.
The closure follows visible structural damage attributed to heavy seas.
Mayor Kyriakos Xidias said the situation could no longer be addressed through limited repairs.

“The condition of the pedestrian walkway no longer allows for half measures,” he said.
“Highlighting the reality is the first step towards the solution.”
He added that the municipality intends to move forward with a complete redesign and reconstruction of the promenade.
“We assume our responsibility to proceed with a proper redesign and a comprehensive reconstruction that will make the pedestrian walkway a jewel for Cyprus,” Xidias said.
According to the mayor, the scale of the project will require substantial state backing.
“A project of this scope, costing millions of euros, requires practical and direct financial support from the central state,” he said.
“Our citizens and the thousands of visitors deserve a safe space worthy of our region.”
The municipality stressed that fragmented interventions carried out in previous years have now come to an end, with the focus shifting to securing funding for a definitive, modern regeneration of the coastal front.
Residents and visitors have been urged to follow warning signs and avoid restricted areas for their own safety.
