The Cyprus Symphony Orchestra artistic programme for March-April allows music lovers in Cyprus to look forward to five exceptionally engaging programmes.
Concerts featuring tributes to the distinguished pianist Vicky Stylianou, international stars, an Easter concert, a chamber music concert, and a Premiere concert with the rapidly rising Cypriot pianist Christos Fountos as soloist and more are on the horizon.
First up is the Tribute to Vicky Stylianou on March 5 at Pallas Theatre and March 6 at Markideio Municipal Theatre. With this concert, the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra honours and celebrates her memory – an artist of remarkable musical contribution, both as a pianist and as an orchestrator. The concerts are conducted by the orchestra’s honourary conductor Alkis Baltas and welcome soloist Antonis Manias, one of the most distinguished Greek violists of his generation.
Next is the Starlight 4 concert, on March 18 at Pattihio Municipal Theatre and March 19 at Strovolos Municipal Theatre, where two great artists of international standing join the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra. Clarinetist Sharon Kam and conductor Michalis Economou lead the way for the concert’s two romantic masterpieces.
Commencing April’s concerts is the Rutter: Requiem series on April 2 at Rialto Theatre and April 3 at Strovolos Municipal Theatre. Joining the orchestra to present John Rutter and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s pieces are sopranos Mariza Anastasiades and Eleni Charalambous, the Cyprus Youth Symphony Orchestra Choir and conductor Levan Jagaev.
In the Duo Noima & Rami Sarieddine concert, three artists join forces to present a performance full of exuberance and sparkle spanning from Baroque elegance to contemporary pulse. Markideio Municipal Theatre will first welcome the flute duo Duo Noïma (Virginie Bove and Eleni Kappa) and pianist Rami Sarieddine, on April 23. A day later, Nicosia audiences will enjoy their music at the Pallas Theatre.
Last on the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra’s spring agenda is the Premiere 5 concert on April 29 (Nicosia) and April 30 (Larnaca), presenting masterpieces by Bach, Rachmaninov and Schumann. This highly contrasted programme from Baroque profundity to Romantic exuberance will be presented under the firm baton of the internationally acclaimed conductor Charles Olivieri-Munroe and featured soloist and Cypriot pianist Christos Fountos.
More concerts will follow around Cyprus in the months to come, presenting the very best of the island’s classical music artists and timeless compositions. The full programme will be announced shortly.
