A second fatality was recorded on Cyprus roads on Sunday lunchtime which left a 66-year-old driver dead.

At 1.35pm a car being driven by 66-year-old Kyriacos Kyriacou on the road to Vati on the Limassol to Platres road under circumstances crashed with a motorbike being driven by a 40-year-old man.

Police and ambulances arrived at the scene and both drivers were taken to hospital, where doctors confirmed the death of Kyriacou.

The motorcyclist is now hospitalised at a private clinic with multiple injuries while his condition is described as serious.

The accident follows one in Nicosia on Saturday evening also involving a motorcyclist and a car.

In the earlier accident the 17-year-old motorcyclist was killed when hit by a car driven by a 54-year-old man who was three times over the alcohol limit. He has been remanded in police custody.
