Closing schools in Akrotiri, Trachoni, Episkopi and Asomatos following military activity in the area was a preventive measure for the safety of children and teachers, however schooling must continue, Disy MP Giorgos Karoullas said on Wednesday.

Karoullas was speaking after a House education committee discussed the situation in Cyprus “due to the attacks against the territory of the Republic of Cyprus by drones”.

He said schooling should continue and the education ministry should activate tele-education protocols for all students, particularly the graduates.

The MP pointed out it was necessary to update the security plans in schools and that with coordination “we can handle the situation, securing both the safety of children and their right to education”.
