Rostro Group, in collaboration with the Vouni Community Council, the Expatriates Association, and the Vouni Women’s Club, successfully hosted a large-scale tree planting event in Vouni village on 28 February, bringing together employees, residents, and volunteers to plant 2,000 trees as part of ongoing wildfire recovery efforts.

The initiative follows Rostro Group’s €100,000 pledge made last summer to support communities affected by the devastating wildfires of July. The event marked a significant milestone in that commitment, transforming support into tangible environmental restoration.

More than just a corporate initiative, the day became a true community effort. Rostro employees, Vouni residents and community members, and volunteers came together, many accompanied by their families and some even with their four-legged family members, to help restore the natural landscape surrounding the village. The atmosphere combined purpose with solidarity, reflecting a shared commitment to rebuilding what was lost.

Constantinos Shakallis, CEO of Scope Markets Cyprus, the retail arm of Rostro Group, commented on the mission behind the initiative.

“When we made our pledge last summer, it was important to us that our support would translate into meaningful, visible impact,” he said. “Seeing our team working side by side with the Vouni community to plant 2,000 trees is incredibly powerful. This isn’t just about reforestation; it’s about the resilience of this island’s people and about long-term responsibility when it comes to the corporate world’s contribution.”

The wildfires that affected so many Cyprus villages in July left significant environmental damage, impacting local ecosystems and communities. The tree planting initiative contributes directly to reforestation efforts while reinforcing collaboration between the private sector and local communities.

Representatives from the Vouni Community Council and local associations expressed appreciation for the partnership and the strong turnout from volunteers, highlighting the importance of collective action in restoring the village’s natural surroundings.

Christodoulos Demetriou, President of the Expatriates Association, expressed gratitude for the solidarity shown. “The wildfires deeply affected our village and its surrounding environment, he noted. “Today’s turnout shows the strength of collaboration between local residents, associations and responsible businesses. We are grateful to Rostro Group and all the volunteers who stood with our community and helped us take another important step toward restoration.”
